What started out as an April Fool’s joke back in April 2010 by ThinkGeek has now been transformed in to a reality and is now available to purchase for $100.
To use the iCade, gently slide the iPad into the cradle. The iCade uses Bluetooth to connect to the iPad so there’s nothing else you need to do. You’re ready to “insert coin” and game on!
However if you are looking to get your hands on one the first shipment of devices is already sold out and the iPad iCade Arcade cabinet is now on back order, with more expected to arrive on the 20th May at the latest.
ThinkGeek has partnered with ION. Atari, to create the new iCade iPad gaming cabinet, and also signed up to bring a range of classic arcade titles including Asteroids, which has iCade support built right in.
ThinkGeek is also developing a friendly API for developers to add iCade support to almost any game. The iCade is now available to purchase from Think Geek for $100 but unfortunately Think Geek cannot ship the iCade outside of the U.S at the moment.
The Atari’s Greatest Hits download is required for iCade, which comes with classic Pong for free, other games available for in-app purchase. 3-game packs are $1. All 100 games are $14.99
