As reported here on Cell Phones Etc. and across the Web, here’s your daily brief on what happened in the world of mobile phones this Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011.

Nexus One gets Android 2.3.4 over the air, but no Gtalk video calling fun
The Nexus S isn’t the only handset that’s getting their Android 2.3.4 game on. So is the very first Google-branded Android phone, the Nexus One. But there’s a huge disparity between the Android 2.3.4 update rolling out for the two handset: Google Talk video/voice chat support. The Nexus S is getting it while the Nexus One isn’t. Not much to look forward to if your a Nexus One owner, but hey, this comes with a number of bug fixes so it might still be worth checking out.

Samsung Galaxy S II Outsells iPhone 4 In Korea
There’s still no word on when Sammy’s Galaxy S successor will hit the country, but as far as Korea goes, it’s a runaway hit. So much so that it’s well on its way to eclipse iPhone 4 sales in the Asian country as carriers have already received 200K pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S II (the iPhone 4 only had 110L pre-orders). Of course, being available on a number of carriers helped, but we still can’t discount the fact that people are queuing up for the dual-core powered Galaxy S smartphone.

BlackBerry OS 7 browser beats iOS, Android browsers
To show off just how much improved the browser is in their new BlackBerry 7 platform, RIM put the BlackBerry 9900 in a head-to-head browser showdown with the iPhone 4, Nexus One, Nexus S, and their own BlackBerry 6. The results? Sunspider benchmark scores are as follows (lower is better): Bold 9900 – 2.84s, iPhone 4 – 3.23s, Nexus One – 5.22s, Nexus S – 5.86s, and dead last, BlackBerry OS 6 with 10.8s. It’s undeniably fast, but the performance bump can also be attributed to the Bold 9900’s faster 1.2GHz processor. That said, this nonetheless proves that RIM’s newest Bold smartphone is definitely something to keep an eye out for.
