Motorola’s headline grabbing Atrix smartphone will launch with Orange in the UK in June
Orange will be the UK launch partner for the Motorola Atrix smartphone, announced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, at the end of June.
Pricing will be announced closer to launch.
The Atrix uses Google’s Android 2.2 platform and has a 1 GHz dual core processor, 1GB of RAM, a qHD pentile display with 24-bit colour, front and rear facing cameras and up to 48GB of storage.
It also houses a 1,930mAh battery, yet it is just 11mm thick. As well, it has a fingerprint reader.
Motorola’s innovation with the device, however, sees it made available with a variety of docking stations to make use of the device as a computer engine with other hardware.
So buyers have the option to buy a laptop dock alongside the handset, a 1.1kg netbook with a 11.6-inch screen, integrated keyboard, trackpad and battery (as pictured).
The Atrix behaves as the CPU.
It can also be purchased with a dock to be connected to an HD TV, with USB ports for a keyboard, trackpad or mouse, as well as a remote control for multimedia with HD resolution.
The handset allows the full Firefox 3.6 web browser and supports Adobe Flash Player.
The Atrix was described by Motorola Mobility chief executive officer Sanjay Jha as the “world’s most powerful smartphone” at CES.
