Optimus Black to be showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas with LG claiming it to feature a brighter and clearer display than seen on other handsets; 3D glasses-free display to also be showcased
LG will unveil the Optimus Black at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas from tomorrow (January 6), which will feature a display technology that it claims is a first for the mobile market.
The 9.2mm thick Optimus Black, which is based on the Android 2.2 Froyo platform and can later be upgraded to the Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform, features a ‘NOVA’ display with 700 nits of brightness. LG claimed this makes it the brightest, clearest and most readable among mobile screens. LG added it provides users with higher levels of brightness and pure white tones as well as reducing power consumption by 50 per cent during general indoor use compared to a conventional LCD.
The Optimus UI 2.0 enables users to directly access messages, emails and missed calls from the locked screen with one finger tap and the ‘Gesture UI’ offers commands including lifting, shaking and tapping for taking calls, entering camera mode or accessing music. The Optimus Black also introduces ‘Wi-Fi Direct’ which LG said provides quick and high-quality data transfer between mobile devices, as well as adopting a front-facing two-megapixel camera.
The LG Optimus Black will be rolled out globally in the first half of this year.
LG will also showcase a 4.3-inch glasses-free 3D display for mobile devices throughout the show. The display uses an applied parallax barrier technology, which LG said delivers a series of light-blocking slits attached to the front of the LCD panel. It added the slits, or barriers, ensure that the left and right eyes see different images, creating a 3D effect.
