Much like a great book, a roller coaster ride, or a Joss Whedon TV show, we knew that Verizon’s “unlimited” data plans were coming to an early end sooner or later. We just didn’t know when, or how much we (or, at least, those of us not on grandfathered plans) would have to cough up when the time came.
Now, things aren’t official just yet — but thanks to the ol’ rumor mill, we’ve got a pretty good idea of what to expect.
Word of the package details come from Droid-Life. Here’s what they’re hearing
New Plans:
$30 per month for 2 GB
$50 per month for 5 GB
$80 per month for 10 GB
Yikes. That gets expensive quick. It gets even pricier if you’re looking to add tethering, though each tethering tier comes with a bit more data:
New plans w/ tethering:
$50 per month for 4 GB
$70 per month for 7 GB
$100 per month for 12 GB
According to their tipster, these plans should roll out for new customers beginning on June 7th — just one day after the free tethering promo ends.
At $100/12 GB, you’re paying $8.30 per gigabyte. At $30/2 GB, meanwhile, each gigabyte is costing you $15.
Welcome to the future, folks. Hope you’ve got your grandfathered plan on lock.
